Does Jupiter have rings?
It's known that Jupiter has four sets of rings, although the dust and rocks that they are made up of are so small, they are near impossible to see. (Universe Today) They were discovered during the Voyager 1 mission and are only visible from the back of Jupiter or/and when they are backlit by the Sun. Dust coincides with the moons in order to form the rings. (NASA)
Moons
Jupiter has the most confirmed moons of any planet in the solar system with 79 moons. Each are unique and a few have very notable features. (NASA) All images were obtained from NASA.
Io
Io is the third largest of Jupiters moons and is the highest density. In terms of the rest of the solar system, Io is the fourth largest moon, has the least amount of H2O, and is the most volcanically active.
Ganymede
Ganymede is not only the largest moon of Jupiter, but the largest moon in the solar system! It is suspected that Ganymede may have salty lakes beneath the surface, giving it the possibility to support life.
Europa is the fourth biggest moon of Jupiter and the sixth biggest moon of the solar system. Europa could likely support life as well, as it is believed to have enough water and chemicals, but scientists struggle to find an appropriate source of energy.
Callisto is the second largest of all of Jupiter's moons and the third largest of all moons in the solar system. Similarly to Ganymede, Callisto may also have salty oceans under its surface, suggesting it may be habitable as well.
Io, Ganymede, Europa and Callisto are considered the four Galilean moons, as Galileo discovered them. They are the four largest moons of Jupiter and are visible with only a telescope.
