In class, we use a variety of sources. One day we may be looking at primary documentary. The next day we might be using a small part of a documentary. Students have often asked us to let them know where these videos came from so they could show friends and family. Here are some of the more popular videos we've shown in class so far this unit.
8th Grade Social Studies using a curriculum called "Facing History". We believe it is vital that students are presented the most accurate and in-depth version of historical events. This should occur even if the subject matter is disturbing or difficult to confront. This video describes the reasoning and gives an over-view of the curriculum.
In 1968, an Iowa teacher was troubled by how her students and community were treating other races. She devised an experiment to teach her class what it was like to be mistreated by society based on their appearance. While some of the language delivered by these young students is shocking, it serves as both a lesson and a time capsule.
