About this site

thanks for stopping by!

My name is Joanna Drusin, and I am a school librarian at Brooklyn Technical High School. I hold a MS in Teaching Adolescent English (7-12), an MS in Library and Information Science, and certification from NBPTS (National Board for Professional Teaching Standards).

This site is the culmination of educational research project sabbatical where I looked at the role of Social and Emotional Learning in the school library. This site is intended to support school librarians and teachers who are interested in embedding SEL into their classroom communities. These resources are intended for 6-12th graders (11-17 year olds) but surely can be adapted for other age groups.

Feel free to reach out by filling out the form below or emailing me directly at joanna.drusin@gmail.com. I would love to hear about how you bring these resources to your library or classroom!

You can also visit our school library website bthslib.weebly.com or follow our instagram account, @BrooklynTechLibrary.

additional resources

There were so many useful resources during this project, both print and human. Here's a link to my literature review/sources, which helped me get a grasp of the shape of school and library SEL today. LINK: LITERATURE REVIEW

On each of the "skills" pages I included some display ideas. Here is the entire document with all of the display ideas in one place. LINK: BULLETIN BOARD DISPLAYS

On each of the "skills" pages (and also in "Book Recommendations") I listed books that are good for supporting students with SEL skills. The much longer and more detailed list is available here. LINK: BOOK LIST
