What did you study at university?
My degree is English Literature, Language and Linguistics but I focused more on literature.
What do you teach?
I teach the lower forms one and two English.
How would you describe yourself?
I would say I am often stimulated by new ideas or interpretations. I ponder from time to time.
What are your hobbies?
I enjoy reading articles online from a recipe to travel stories, or album reviews and cultural commentaries. I also like watching infotainment shows as to learn new information or refresh my perspectives. I suppose absorbing all the latest deets is my way of staying tuned to what is happening in different corners of the world from the level of human connections as opposed to only knowing the hard facts. I also have a soft spot for good puns and live gigs.
What is your favourite quote?
"You are only as tall as your heart will let you be and you are only as small as the world will make you seem.” My take on it is to treasure your honest & curious heart in this vast and constantly evolving world, and as long as you stay true to what you stand for, you will be able to figure out your place and your way forward.
Can you give our students some tips on learning English?
Pick one thing you are interested in and incorporate English into that activity. If you like food or eating out, read a restaurant review or the recipe of a dish you like in English. If you love watching your favourite NBA players shoot their three pointers, listen to the English commentary as the ball got thrown down into the hoop. If you already liked certain things, you have the basic knowledge and it is much easier to pick up on the language.
What expectations do you have of our students?
I value respect and responsibilities and I expect my students to be like so too. And I want them to not be afraid of giving things a go and keep trying, both inside and outside the classroom, there is nothing much more satisfying than seeing your ability grows.
