Overview of Barrier: Supporting family engagement is essential in any learning environment, but even more so in navigating the shift from in-person to virtual environments. However, engagement on behalf of the family may not be reciprocated and will vary depending on culture, beliefs, their own educational experiences, availability, and type of employment. Just like students, families need open communication, access to routines and resources, and to feel safe to reach out to the teacher when support is needed.
