The following educators have spent the last six months working collaboratively to create, implment, and develop the strategies that are available on this website. They represent all grade levels and student ages. They teach everything from self-contained classrooms, resource room, direct consultant teaching, and work preperation classrooms. They are all incredible leaders in their classrooms, school districts, and in education.
As a teacher, I believe all students can prosper with the right attitude and effort. My favorite thing about teaching is….being a guiding light in the students academic and personal lives. Being a good human matters just as much as academics do.
My favorite thing about teaching is….THE KIDS and seeing their faces when they have that “light bulb” moment! As a teacher, I believe that it is my responsibility to educate the whole child and be a strong advocate for their voice.
I believe that all students are capable of accessing the classroom curriculum despite their cognitive, social, or emotional struggles. Every student deserves the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding and improve upon their current skills to develop into a positive member of their community.
My favorite thing about teaching is helping students become more confident in their abilities, instead of focusing on their “disabilities”. I believe that every. single. student. has something positive to contribute to their classroom.
My special education is special because everyday is a new adventure. We have the power to change lives every single day. My favorite thing about teaching is sharing the joys of success with the students I work with. I enjoy watching my students becomes confident scholars.
My special education is special because I explore ways to help my students connect with what they need to learn. I encourage my students to find the strengths they possess and show them how to use their strengths to be successful, both in school and beyond.
My favorite thing about teaching is becoming part of the learning process. I enjoy introducing meaningful learning opportunities to my students, engaging with them as they ¨work¨, and helping to guide them through new levels of understanding. I truly enjoy working with adolescents and being part of their journey towards independence, maturity and reaching their goals.
My favorite thing about teaching is watching the students grow from 9th-11th grade and transition to post graduation. As a teacher, I believe the environment and connection with the students that I create is the most important thing that I do. It’s important to be flexible and accommodating with all students and to keep their interests in mind.
As a teacher, I believe that I need to empower students with the knowledge, skills, and values to become a productive participant in this ever changing word. As a teacher I accomplish these goals with my students by providing them with equal access to the curriculum and and equal opportunities to learn.
My favorite thing about teaching is learning and discovering on a daily basis ways to find success. My special education is special because I am able to see mini successes and growth on a daily basis. I open a whole new world for many students and will always remember those discoveries.
As a teacher, I believe that all students deserve a chance to show you their best and be celebrated for it. Meeting students where they are, making them feel safe, loved and part of something bigger comes first. After this is set in place, true learning will surely follow.
My favorite thing about teaching is facilitating growth through academic and social emotional activities As a teacher, I believe that all students deserve a safe space to learn and grow. I believe that the most effective teaching strategies are rooted in reciprocal trust between teacher, student, and parent/guardian.
As a teacher, I believe that all students are capable of overcoming challenges and accomplishing difficult things when provided with adequate support. I believe that students should be provided opportunities to learn skills in an environment that is positive, encouraging and appropriate for their needs.
My favorite thing about teaching is that I can help my students learn while also having fun. There is never a dull moment in middle school! As a teacher, I believe we are role models for our students as continuous learners. We learn from our students and our peers. We provide what students need to be their best selves.
My special education is special because I have focused on building strong relationships with students, and in turn, have watched them invest in their learning. I have students come back to me as they are graduating and remembering life lessons that were taught, and how they felt important to me. Those memories stay with them for a really long time and help shape who they become.
As a teacher, I believe in the fundamentals of child development, whether it’s working with kindergarten or 12th grade student. I believe that it is my job to nurture the “whole child”, to make learning fun and engaging, base instruction on the theory of play, and most of all, to build meaningful relationships with my students, staff, and parents.
As a teacher, I believe that everyone can be successful and independent in their own way. Our job as special educators is to “level the playing field” for our students with disabilities. The more prepared we can make them to acquire gainful employment with their peers is priority #1! My favorite thing about teaching is those “AHA!” moments that occur during the year. When a student says “wait, this is like what we did when…” and then is successful.
My favorite thing about teaching is my students and the relationships I have with them. I feel I am the best version of myself when I am with them. My special education is special because I build relationships while I teach content. All students, but especially, apprehensive students with a history of failure and frustration, need a safe and supportive environment in which to learn. In my classroom, consideration of social-emotional needs are done in tandem with academic needs.
As a teacher, I believe that every student is unique and deserves to have their individual strengths and needs met. My favorite thing about teaching is the look on a student’s face when a tough concept finally clicks! My special education is special because I work closely with classroom teachers to make sure every single student is genuinely included.
My favorite thing about teaching is I get to contribute to who my students will become as humans. As a teacher, I believe all students are capable no matter the struggles they face on the inside or outside. It is my job as a teacher to act as a tour guide: leading, directing, facilitating, protecting and making learning fun.
