2025-2026: Lettering Standards and Diploma Distinctions (Current)

For students to earn a Letter for Speech and Debate, they need to do the following: 

• Attend 35, 2-hours long, practices or the equivalent in hours.

• Compete on the State Team 

  • • • Note: If a competitor is slated to be on the State team, but does not attend State for ANY reason (aside from severe illness of themself or a family member), they automatically forfeit their lettering status.

        • • • You have to compete at 2 State competitions for the Humanities Distinction OR be a current Senior on the Team and compete at State (Compete The Full Season). 

• Compete at the Majority of Varsity Tournaments as a Varsity Member (6/8)

  • • • Note: for a Novice, you can still Letter if you go to 4 tournaments as a Varsity member and/or if you go to State AND Nat Quals. 

      • Note: If you miss more than 2 tournaments for ANY reason, you automatically forfeit your Lettering Status

• Either Meet Fundraising Goal OR Complete Volunteer Hours

  • • • • Fundraising Monetary Goal (From Revtrack or SchoolFundr): $500

OR

• Shifts Working at Any of the Following that totals $500:

  • • • • Sweet Pea Parking Lot ($100 per shift)

        • 50/50 Ticket Sales (The total raised divided by kids who signed up--can range from $150-$350 depending)

        • Concession Stands ($100 per shift)

• Note.  Can mix and Match. I.E:

  • • • • Raise $200 and then work shifts at Sweet Pea/Concessions/ 50/50

• Need to have done two of the following to Letter: 

  • • • Be in Top 16 at 3 or more tournaments in a Varsity Event.

      • Place First or be in the top 4 as a Varsity Competitor at one or more Varsity tournament(s). 

      • Place First at State, becoming the State Champion, OR be confirmed All-American (Top 4 at State).

      • Be a National Qualifier (1st, 2nd, or 3rd place) or First Alternate (4th place) at the Qualifying tournament.

      • Break (make it past preliminary rounds) at the National Tournament (from previous season).

      • Compete on the National Qualifying team in February. 

      • Go to every Varsity tournament

Humanities Distinction: Diploma

• To Get Credit for the Humanities Distinction for Speech and Debate or Merit Distinction the following needs to be done:

  • • • • Compete for two full seasons and compete at 2 State tournaments

          • • • A Full season would entail from October 1st until February 1st, or the equivalent. 

        • OR be an Active Senior on the Team upon Graduation.
