Volunteering at the Food Bank
How did this service affect you personally and how did it affect others in the community? I was able to engage in an activity I knew was going to help someone directly. Packing food to help people in our community who needed it felt rewarding, knowing that donating your time would allow an individual to put food on the table.
Mayors Youth Advisory Board
What have you learned in terms of new knowledge or skills from this experience? I have learned how to network and reach out to various organizations in a professional manner. I feel that this organization has helped me to become a more polished person, ready to go work in a more rigid, structured environment similar to many corporate or government careers.
Link Crew
What new process learning took place: leading, managing, working with others different from yourself, communication, etc.? Link Crew allowed me to be in charge of a group of people, leading them around a brand-new environment. I exercised my communication skills and was able to teach others about someplace I was knowledgeable about and help them feel more comfortable in an unfamiliar environment.
Shadowing Southridge High School's Athletic Trainer
How did this service learning experience serve the community and/or connect to your career areas of interest or career-related studies? I was able to see how medical care can be applied in my school. I encountered various injuries and got to observe how they were accessed and treated. This only made me like the "medical" aspect more, experiencing helping people and applying extensive knowledge about the human body.
