Students learned about nursery rhymes and fairy tales. Students listened to stories and completed hands-on learning activities. These activities help to enhance learning, promote active learning, foster creativity and imagination along with developing fine motor, communication, and social skills. We also need to add in the smiles and fun that the children had while listening to the stories and working on the projects.
The Cubs have been working hard on retelling stories, identifying the author and illustrator, and engaging in creative writing. Recently, they worked on Claire Freedman's Aliens Love Underpants series. Students had the opportunity to become illustrators and create their own Alien in Underpants.
Kindergarten has spent the last few weeks learning all about Dr. Seuss. We read many of his books, had a Wacky Wednesday, tried green eggs and ham and practiced rhyming silly words!
March 2nd was Dr. Seuss’ birthday and Read Across America day. The first graders celebrated on Monday, March 4th. The kids got to visit each first grade classroom to hear a Dr. Seuss book and participate in some fun activities like trying Green Eggs and Ham, writing with their eyes shut, making a Lorax, graphing their favorite book, Bingo, and making butter.
Thank you to our SRO's for coming to the classrooms this month to teach the kids about stranger danger.
Our 2nd grade scientists enjoy studying force and motion with hands-on learning experiences. For example, Mrs. Walker & Mrs. Houk's classes participated in this stem project exploring the concept of friction. The MISSION: create a board that will slow your marble down while allowing it to travel to the end of your board! The team with the slowest marble to reach the end of the board WINS! Students created prototypes, were able to test their boards and make revisions. Race day was FUN!
