The Bryan HS Marching Band traveled to the City of Brotherly Love - Philadelpha, Pennsylvania. In addition to checking out the sights, the band performed in the annual St. Patrick's Day parade. A huge thanks to the community for their support in fundraising, the administration, and our chaperones. Our trip could not have been a success without any of these groups.

Alternative Strings went to an awesome collaborative workshop at the Toledo School for the Arts. They worked with the faculty and received helpful feedback, met new friends, and performed a joint concert with another band from the school. It was great weekend and the kids played well!

Planning continues to be underway for the Arts and Education (Central Building) renovation.
In recent weeks, the BCS Brownfield Grant Application to seek funds from the State to offset demolition costs of the "South Half" (gym and classrooms only) of the facility was advanced to "review" status. This is great news as this means we are one step closer to being a probable recipient of the grant funds!
Once the grant application gets officially accepted, BCS will announce plans for the future of the use of the auditorium while the Central building goes through it's demolition and rebuild phases. Some timelines of this process are beginning to emerge, and stakeholders who utilize the facility are aware of some preliminary possibilities, but nothing is official yet.
Beyond the steps to prepare for the demolition phase in part with the Brownfield Remediation Grant, plans are underway to prepare for the redevelopment process
Once demolition of the "south half" only of the Central building through the Brownfield Remediation Grant process is complete, BCS will pursue the revitalization and rejuvenation of the auditorium, along with facility redevelopment expansions to the north and south of the auditorium to address focused needs of the existing structure.
Overall, the redevelopments and additions to the auditorium following the Brownfield Grant Demolition process will aim to enhance the following:
Lobby Space/Fellowship Space
Restroom Facilities
A continued Downtown Presence aligned with the city’s mission of continued enhancement.
Lighting Upgrades
Sound System Upgrades
Rehearsal Space
Dressing Rooms
Backstage Restrooms
Set Building Space
Storage
Planning to fund the "post demolition" redevelopment is underway, with a public campaign anticipated in the Summer of 2025 and beyond.
In an effort to lead community partnerships that support this vision, the following has been established:
In November 2024, BCS partnered with the Bryan Area Foundation and the Bryan Area Foundation Trustees approved the establishment of a new Project Fund.
The opening of the Project Fund required an Establishing Gift and the community was blessed with a $100,000 donation from community members, Dr.George and Julie Brown.
With this project fund establishment, Bryan native, community member, and arts advocate, Russ Davies is leading the new ART Connects Us project vision and capital campaign.
Bryan City Schools has already dedicated $2.1 million toward the redevelopment project.
Bryan City Schools has secured an Architect (Beilharz Architects) firm for the redevelopment project.
Russ Davies, along with George and Julie Brown, have noted the location and history of the Arts and Ed building as primary reasons for their interest in supporting the cause. As George and Julie often say, quoting anthropologist Margaret Mead, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world, indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
Information about the ART Connects Us project fund can be found on the Bryan Area Foundation website: https://www.bryanareafoundation.org/art-connects-us/
As we head into late spring of 2025, and beyond, Russ Davies will be sharing a wealth of updates from the ART Connects Us committee.
