Happy Holidays and good luck with all the buzz and activity that come with this time of year. I hope everyone has all the items on their lists crossed off, decorations done, and all their food prepped for the holidays. Yeah, right! Realistically, I just hope we all can keep our sanity during the stretch run of the next few days!
These days from Thanksgiving Break to Winter Break were squeezed even more than normal this year and the time between has really flown by. Our kids and staff have been participating in Christmas for Kids activities as well as all the normal end of quarter activities. As always, everyone is looking forward to spending time with their family and friends over break and hoping to relax and recharge when we come back in the New Year.
If you look below in the Announcements and News of Interest section you will see some important dates and events that are coming up soon at BMS.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me or any staff at BMS. We are happy to help in any way we can.
MOST IMPORTANTLY, THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO EVERY DAY AND ALL YEAR TO MAKE THIS A GREAT SCHOOL YEAR FOR THE 6-8 STAFF!

8th Graders that have not worked concessions to take $50 off their Chicago trip fee have more opportunities in January and February to work.
Be on the lookout for information about MS Guidance Night on 1/27/25
Also on 1/27/25 there will be a meeting for parents of 8th graders going on the class trip to Chicago.
When the students return from Christmas Break, we will be having a meeting establishing expectations and the timeline of major dates for the upcoming trip. Parents/families of 8th graders ask your student about the docs and folder already shared with them with information you need for the trip.
Luke (8) and Harrison (7) Spitnale won the Congressional App Challenge for our district. They will attended an event where they were recognized by Marcy Kaptur and then in the spring they will be in Washington, DC for an event. They developed an app to help bee keepers track the weather and honey production at their bee hives. Since bees are weather sensitive, it helps beekeepers know the best times to check on their hives. This in turn will allow the hives to be more productive.
Students who currently have only A's, B's on Powerschool will be able to take a daily break during AA in the gym if they choose.
BMS/BHS Christmas for Kids 2024 Campaign
Christmas for Kids has been a cause BHS and BMS have been committed to since at least 2009. Students and staff have created competitions about giving between grade levels and sending extra special wishes to get more people excited about giving.
This year, Spangler Candy donated candy canes for our BHS Student Council’s Candy Cane Wishes program. Students and staff could donate a dollar to send a candy cane to someone at school. Our own BMS/BHS Golden Bear Photography donated a “present” so that students and staff could guess how many items were in it and have a chance to win the entire present. Each guess was a dollar. Miles Palmer won the “present’ with his guess of 220 items.
We had dress up days that counted toward the BHS Battle of the Classes competition sponsored by Mrs. Arthur and the senior class. The BMS Student Council sponsored a Dress up Battle of the classes with 6th-8th grades, with the winner receiving a hot chocolate party. The 6th grade won!
We also held a door decorating contest. Many classroom doors were decorated with a holiday theme to boost holiday spirits!
Mrs. Shindledecker’s BMS class helped to keep track of the giving by creating a cookie graph for each grade. For every $20, a paper cookie was placed on the paper baking sheet on the walls by the offices. The 6th grade class, the Class of ‘31 and the Senior Class of ‘25 were the top donating classes.
Mr. Alspaugh and Mr. Arnold set forth a challenge to the student body and staff to donate a little bit more and they would provide a treat in celebration. The students and staff met the challenge with a grand total of $3,303.37 donated to Christmas for Kids in 2024.
