Your final grade for the BRVGS Senior Capstone (PLE, Research and Community Service) Project will be based on completion of the requirements established in each of the project Modules. The grade will be calculated and reported at each marking period. Please keep the following in mind -
The Research Paper will count as 20% of your overall grade. This will be counted as an "exam" in most districts, but how it is listed on your report card may vary in our member districts.
The BRVGS Senior Presentation and Expo will count together as the course exam, for 20% of the entire course grade - so the final grade of the course will be calculated and reported at the end of the school year.
Students who take the BRVGS Senior course in the Fall in "4 X 4" (semester-long) schools will receive grades at the end of the 1st and 2nd 9 weeks' marking periods. For those students, the 1st semester grade will "carry over" for the 3rd and 4th 9 weeks of the year.
Students who take the course in a yearlong format with receive grades for each of the 9 weeks' marking periods throughout the year.
The Final Exam grade will be added and calculated for all students at the end of the year.
An important aspect of grading for the BRVGS Senior Capstone Professional Learning Experience, Research and Community Service Project that parents and students should take note of is the use of "Quality Points". Quality points will constitute approximately 10% of the overall grade. Students should keep the following in mind regarding Quality Points:
Students must meet all basic requirements before any consideration will be given as to whether they should receive Quality Points.
The Senior Advisor makes the final determination as to whether a student is eligible to receive quality points, and if so, how many they should receive.
Students must have exceeded basic expectations to receive quality points.
There is a late work policy for most of the required elements of the Senior Capstone Project. Typically, students will lose 1 (one) point per day from that section of the Senior Capstone grade rubric for each day late. After 3 days, the student will be referred to the BRVGS Director for probation (first offense) or dismissal (repeatedly late assignments).
