Artillery weapons such as trebuchets and cannons were developed in the Islamic Empires because of opposing forces like the Mongols and Christian Nations. Without artillery the Islamic Empires would not be able to combat their enemies.

The impact of Islamic artillery how it changed warfare forever. Before trebuchets and black powder cannons soldiers used bows and swords. After the invention of artillery, armies could send high speed projectiles far distances. This proved much more effective than the weapons that they already had (Chevedden 1).

In 1453 the Ottoman Turks captured Constantinople. Sultan Mehmed II had the entire city surrounded by ground forces and on the sea by ships. Along with the ground forces he had cannons constantly shoot fire at the city and its walls. The cannons helped break down the wall enough to let soldeirs into the city and take it over (Hudson)

The impact that Islamic Artillery has left in modern times is that we still use artillery. Modern artillery has come a long way since the 14th century but we can still some similarities. Instead of loading power then a ball we have cartridges that contain the powder and the projectile.
