The Royal Road in ancient Persia was more than just a path, it was the center of Persia; a lifeline. In some areas it was paved with stone blocks, ensuring a smooth journey, while in others, it was only gravel (The Diary of Young Explorers). The road stretched from Susa to India through Persepolis, and was created by King Darius l in the 5th century BCE. The Royal Road also symbolized the power of the Persian empire allowing control over its vast territories and improving trade, along with cultural exchange.
The Royal Road was originally built to make day-to-day traveling easier, but there were many other benefits from it as well. It improved the Persian Empire drastically by connecting distant cities and regions. It also led to a higher standard of safety, rapid troop development, networking, the ability to move large armies, along with further things (The Persian Royal Road). The two most important ways the Royal Road impacted Persia was in their communication and their military.
The government was able to send important messages quickly, which was very beneficial for keeping the empire organized and under control ((Royal Road - World History – before 1500). The road also made it easier for people and travelers to communicate and share news more easily throughout the empire. It also allows people to learn from each other when they have things like different languages, religions, and further things (Royal Roads: Livius). The Royal Road also strengthened the military greatly. Soldiers could travel long distances in short amounts of time, they could have military campaigns, deliver supplies, and other things were greatly impacted because of the Royal Road (Persian Royal Road).
The Royal Road was historically important because it connected the empires territories, created efficient trade, enabled fast communication, and rapid military movement. The road was a vital tool for a lot of things it allowed officials to send important things, and receive information from the far sides of the empire quickly and efficiently. This was huge for the history because when there was a war going to happen the government could know and warn their people quickly.
