PAINTING
PAINTING is a half-year course that focuses on developing a foundation of knowledge and skills in painting. Painting serves as a valuable foundation for Advanced Art, a course which can be taken next year (this class is a prerequisite).
COURSE CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
In this class you will…
Learn how to use both acrylic and watercolor paint
Acquire skills in mixing and matching colors
Explore a wide spectrum of ideas from real to abstract through projects involving portraiture, landscape, expressionism, and conceptual art
Exposure to various artists & art movements from 1800’s to today
Participate in Art Criticism (of self & peers)
GRADING
Projects make up 100% of a student’s grade. Each project will be graded on the following criteria: Planning (Brainstorming/Sketching/References), Creating (Problem Solving/Motivation/Demonstration of Skills & Knowledge), Responding (Feedback/Revision/Critiques), Resolving (Finished Product/Craftsmanship) & Communicating (Presentation/Organization/Self-Assessment). Each section is scored on a five point rubric scale. Points are added up and averaged, then converted to grades out of 100 points.
REQUIRED MATERIALS
Students enrolled in Painting will be loaned brushes, palette, and palette knife for this course. These will be stored in a clear gallon zip bag. Students will be responsible for these items and will need to return them in June in the same condition they received them in or fees will be assessed. Acrylic and watercolor paint will be supplied by the school.
GOOGLE CLASSROOM
Google Classroom will be an integral part of this course. Announcements and assignments will be posted within Google Classroom. You will be sent a code or invite to join. Guardians may also join Google Classroom and receive weekly summaries about the class and their student.
DISPLAYING OF ARTWORK
Artwork will be on display throughout the year in the hallways at school, culminating with the district-wide art show in May. Each student will have least one work of art in the show. All projects will remain at school until the end of the year, when a portfolio assessment/reflection is completed.
Artwork is also periodically displayed on my Instagram @mrs.sheffer
