The Bruce School District incorporates a variety of methods to make connections and foster engagement with parents, guardians, and families regarding college and career readiness. This includes but is not limited to:
Course Handbook: As students register for courses for the upcoming year, students and families are provided with a course handbook that includes course descriptions, information on graduation requirements, career pathways of study, senior options, and work-based learning opportunities. The course handbook for the following school year will be ready for students, parents, and guardians to review in January.
8th Grade Parent/Student 4-Year Planning Meeting: Students, parents, and guardians will meet with the counseling department and staff to plan their course schedules for their 4 years of high school in January.
Parent Teacher Conferences: The district facilitates fall and spring parent teacher conferences where families can meet with their child’s teachers on academic progress and the guidance counselor to discuss academic and career planning.
School Counselor: The guidance counselor works with students and their families as they prepare for post-secondary opportunities while in high school and after. This includes supporting students as they apply for college classes during both high school and in post-secondary, scholarships, and financial aid. Historically, the guidance counselor has coordinated a family night with a representative from FAFSA to learn more about applying for financial aid.
Senior Planning Meetings: The guidance counselor facilitates senior meetings with each student to discuss their academic progress and future opportunities. Parents and guardians of students are invited to attend senior meetings during the spring semester of students' junior year.
District Website and Social Media Promotions: We regularly inform parents and/or guardians about career readiness activities through our district website and social media accounts.
