What The Teacher Should Provide

  • White poster paper (Whiteboards lying flat do not work, I tried)

  • Black markers or blue painters tape or black electrical tape

  • Items to use as obstacles.

  • Printed bar codes and activity sheets for the lesson

  • (Recommended): Legos

  • The initial activities are focused on Transferable skills; Students will work in groups and honing their skills in problem solving, self-direction and communication.

Introduce To Students

  • The lesson plans provided by https://meetedison.com/ are very well written are very easy to follow

  • Suggested Initial introduction

    • EdBlocks & EdScratch

      • Break students into groups, and have students do a notice/wonder on the robots

      • Allowing students to reference the Explore Sheets in each of the lesson plans have them identify the different sensors, buttons and connectors.

      • Watch the "Edison inputs & sensors video"

      • Barcode Programming: This will introduce students to the different sensors and functions available on the Edison Robots.

        • Set up stations

          • Clap controlled driving: build a racetrack indicating the start and finish lines, maybe include a right hand turn needed to complete the course.

          • Avoid obstacles: provide students with a variety of items they can use as obstacles (color and size do make a difference).

          • Follow a line: Provide the students with a large white sheet of paper and black markers.

          • Bounce in borders: Provide the students with a large white sheet of paper and black markers.

          • Sumo Wrestling: On the floor with tape, or white surface draw a circle, or use the printout from the lesson book.

          • (edBlocks) Follow a torch: Give the students a flashlight and have them build a course

          • (edScratch) TV Remote: Give the students the TV remotes and have them build a course
