In addition to the three larger projects and final project, you will also complete three “Pair” exercises in class that are meant to reinforce the technical skills we are developing, and foster a sense of community. More information about these exercises will be shared in class; please use this page to upload your work for each of the exercises.
Revisiting
Think of a space / place that is significant to you.
Describe four of its most important features (without revealing what the space / place is) to your partner.
Create four 1800 x 1200 pixel documents (rgb / 300 dpi).
Represent:
Variation 1 (pairs):
each of the features described by your partner, one per document.
Variation 2 (trios):
two of the features described by each of your partners, one per document.
How you choose to do this is up to you - but you should use negative space as an important element in each composition. do not look at the other documents when composing the others.
When you are finished, save each document as a .psd file for your records, then export a .png of each and send all the .png files to your repesctive partner(s). you should do this by Monday at the very latest.
Using only the .png files from your partner, recreate the space / place you described to them and present it in class.
We will discuss your work in class on Thursday, September 29.
Please upload a .zip file containing all Photoshop files (with layers) and web-optimized images of your work (at a reasonable resolution) to the Google Drive Folder below by Thursday, September 29 at 12pm.

The Human Computer
— Part 1 —
Devise a set of instructions for making a new brush in Illustrator.
Devise a set of instructions for making a work of art using this new brush.
Create an Illustrator document with two 8.5x11" artboards; you can do this when creating a new document by changing the value in the Number of Artboards field. If you want to add a second artboard to a pre-existing document, click the Artboard tool (Shift + O) then click on the [+] icon in the Options menu.
Add your instructions to the first artboard, considering how your instructions fill the page and guide the reader through the process of creating the brush and artwork.
Note: you should:
Use at least two fonts from http://fonts.adobe.com
Consider using multiple colors for strokes / fills, font sizes, orientations, and type on paths.
Use diagrams to demonstrate the techniques where necessary / helpful.
Proudly proclaim your name as the author somewhere on the page.
Save a copy of your document for your records with the type intact.
Convert your type to outlines (Type -> Create Outlines) and save it as an Illustrator (.ai) file.
Upload your document to the Google Drive folder linked below.
— Part 2 —
You will be randomly assigned a partner in class on Tuesday, October 11. Download their file and follow their instructions, creating the brush and artwork on the second artboard.
When you are done, save the document as a PDF upload it to the Google Drive folder under "Pair Illustrator Exercise" on our class site's "Pair Exercises" page.
We will discuss your work in class on Tuesday, October 11.

AI&U
For this exercise, find an AI text generator of your choice, and produce a large amount of text (at least a few pages, perhaps more, somewhere from 3 – 5,000 words / 15,000 – 25,000 characters).
Once you have generated your text, send it to your partner.
When you receive your partner’s text, use an AI image generator of your choice to produce a handful of images (in the end, you should have at least 1 – 2 images per page) that somehow “relate” to the AI-generated text you received.
Using InDesign, make at least two parent pages, then create enough pages to utilize the text you received along with the images you generated.
Save your InDesign file in a folder with the images you generated, export a PDF to the same folder, and create a .zip file of your folder.
We will discuss your work in class on Thursday, November 10.
Please upload a .zip file containing all files mentioned above to the Google Drive Folder below by Thursday, November 10 at 12pm.
