ABOUT STEPHAN BROOKS
Competitive speech and debate (also known as "forensics") is my life. I grew up in Union City, CA and started my forensics career competing and coaching for the nationally recognized program at James Logan High School from 2001-2011. I specialized in Public Forum Debate, winning my school's home tournament (the MLK Jr. Invitational) in 2004 & 2005. I would then go on to coach back-to-back CHSSA CA State Championship teams in 2007 & 2008. I was inducted into the James Logan Forensics Hall of Fame in 2011.
After leaving Logan I served as the head debate coach at several Bay Area schools: Hopkins, Mission San Jose, Archbishop Mitty, and Amador Valley. I have taught at annual summer camps hosted at UC Berkeley and Stanford. I ran a private program, The Brooks Academy, with several Logan alumni that was once the largest member school of the National Junior Forensics League (now the NSDA), and winner of the NJFL's Overall School of Excellence award three straight years: 2013-2015.
I am currently pursuing an MA in Communication Studies at San Jose Sate University (go Spartans!) while also continuing to provide speech and debate classes and coaching to K-12 students in Fremont and the greater San Francisco Bay Area via Brooks Debate Institute, my solo venture.
A timeline and highlights of my competitive and coaching career can be found on the AWARDS section of this site. My contact info and program's socials can be found on the CONTACT page. Lastly, I would be remiss if I didn't give proper thanks to the people, programs, and organizations that sparked my love for speech and debate and helped to mold me into a coach. I've dedicated an entire page to all of them here: THANKS.
