~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~FSA ID ACCOUNT INFORMATION
FAFSA: If you have not started the FAFSA, now is the time! First, you will want to create a FSA ID. Go to https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account/launch and select “Create an Account”. If possible, a parent and student should both complete this. Once you have a FSA ID, click https://studentaid.gov/ to go to the FAFSA website and “Start a New FAFSA”. You will need previous tax year income information.
Preparing to File the FAFSA
In addition to the StudentAid.gov Account, students and families should begin collecting necessary financial documents, including tax returns and W-2 forms, in advance of the FAFSA opening date. For a complete list of needed documents, visit https://www.icansucceed.org/about-ican/services/what-to-bring-to-a-fafsa-appointment.
Priority Dates for FAFSA Completion
The FAFSA does not have a single deadline. Rather individual schools have priority dates by which you should file the FAFSA to receive the maximum amount of financial aid. To determine your FAFSA deadline, look up the priority dates of each of the colleges to which you are applying. The earliest date is your FAFSA deadline. Federal Pell Grant Information:
Federal Pell Grants usually are awarded only to undergraduate students who display exceptional financial need and have not earned a bachelor's, graduate, or professional degree. (In some cases, however, a student enrolled in a postbaccalaureate teacher certification program might receive a Federal Pell Grant.) Additionally, you may be eligible to receive a Federal Pell Grant if you are confined or incarcerated and enrolled in an approved Prison Education Program, or are subject to an involuntary civil commitment upon completion of a period of incarceration for a forcible or nonforcible sexual offense.
Alert: Don’t accept unexpected offers of financial aid or help (such as a “pandemic grant” or “Biden loan forgiveness”) without checking with your school to see if the offer is legit. https://studentaid.gov/resources/scams
A Federal Pell Grant, unlike a loan, does not have to be repaid, except under certain circumstances. Find out why you might have to repay all or part of a federal grant.
You may not receive Federal Pell Grant funds from more than one school at a time.
