LO: Can I use comic strips to imitate the style of Roy Lichtenstein?
In the last lesson we began to research and find out more about the famous Pop artist called Roy Lichtenstein.
We learnt that Lichtenstein was heavily inspired by comic strips, cartoons and popular culture that featured in books, TV and films.
We created a piece of bubble writing in a speech style that was often seen in much of Lichtenstein's work, using strong colours, bold lines, dots and vertical/horizontal stripes.
Today we will be working in our sketchbooks to individually create paintings using inspiration from cartoons and comic strips. First of all we will choose an image from a selection of comic strips. We will first sketch this and then look to imitate Lichtenstein's style by using some of the techniques seen in his work, such as block colours, use of dots, bold lines and vertical/horizontal stripes.
Questions to consider while you are making...
What colours will I choose to use to make my tiles?
How many tiles will I choose to create and how will this affect the overall appearance of my print?
What repeated image will I use to put in the centre of each tile? Why have I chosen this image?
What effects am I hoping to create?
