OLAF in action
Tips and Case Studies from Brookes Colleagues
OLAF is already employed by over 70% of relevant modules at Oxford Brookes. This means that there is a growing portfolio of practices where your colleagues have found new and effective ways of using technology as it evolves. We have themed these so you can access new ideas that are relevant quickly and easily. We would also like you to continue to send us your own uses and approaches so other colleagues can adopt and adapt them.
Further Case Studies and Good Practice Ideas
Effective Assessment in a Digital Age (JISC, 2010) (PDF)
A collation of recent JISC reports and case studies that explores effective uses of technology in assessment and feedback. General perspectives (from the manager, practitioner, learner) on the use of technology (from p17) are followed by an extensive compilation of case-study examples of technology-enhanced practice in a wide range of contexts (from p26).
Good overview of the use of technology in the support and enhancement of assessment and feedback practice, based on work done by JISC with 40 HE providers, with links to reports/practices in a number of institutions. Key sections focus on using technology to improve feedback in terms of timeliness (Section 5.1), usefulness (5.2) dialogue and learner engagement (5.3), supporting peer review (5.4), and longitudinal development (5.5).
A comprehensive survey documenting available technologies and the motivations, attitudes and practices of relevant stakeholders. The report focuses principally on the Turnitin suite of tools, including Grademark (Section 2.2.3.1), but also identifies, compares and describes other electronic assessment management (EAM) tools available (SafeAssign, Assignment Handler, ReMarks PDF and ReView (Section 2.2.3.2). There is also useful detail on staff attitudes, experiences and practices relating to use of Grademark (Section 4.6).
