What is Intensive Training and Practice?
Intensive Training and Practice (ITaP) is a focused and rigorous approach to developing foundational elements of a trainee teacher's practice. During an ITaP, trainees are supported to develop specific skills, knowledge, and expertise in a particular subject or domain.
The aspects of teaching that trainees will focus on during ITaPs are clearly defined and specific - enabling novice teachers to master valuable elements of the OBU ITE curriculum. During an ITaP effective practice is achieved through equipping trainees with a foundational understanding of relevant theory, making links with prior knowledge, observing and analysing an expert model and using this knowledge to engage in rounds of practice with expert feedback to enable the trainee to refine and develop their own practice.
How will an ITaP week differ from another week of placement if a trainee is in school?
The aim of an ITaP is to support trainees to develop secure knowledge, skills and understanding in a specific area of teaching. To enable this the expectation is that if ITaP days fall within a placement trainees will focus on the specific expectations and demands of the ITaP. This means that broader placement expectations are paused to enable the trainee to make expected progress. Specific ITaP pages on the Knowledge Base outline provide trainees, Teacher Mentors and Lead Mentors with details and expectations of each ITaP.
