Mccrea, P. (2020) Motivated teaching : harnessing the science of motivation to boost attention and effort in the classroom. Version 1.2.
Desi and Ryan provide provide a broader psychological framework that explores the deeper relational and intrinsic aspects of child motivation. We reccomend the following chapters:
Chapter 3: Human Autonomy: Philosophical Perspectives and the Phenomenology of Self (Fantastic for encouraging trainees to consider the child’s inner perspective and agency).
Chapter 8: Organismic Integration Theory: Internalisation and the Differentiation of Extrinsic Motivation (Helps trainees understand how children internalise classroom routines over time, moving beyond mere compliance).
Chapter 14: Schools as Contexts for Learning and Social Development (A superb, holistic look at how learning environments support both competence and well-being).
