The development of knowledge, skills and understanding on the OBU ITET programmes has been designed around a review, refine and reflect model. You will be taught how to review what you know, to consider practical and incremental ways to refine and enhance this knowledge and to revisit and reflect on your learning over time. OBU staff will support you to implement this model in your practice.
Congratulations on securing a place on one of our OBU ITET programmes. We are delighted you have chosen OBU to embark on your journey towards becoming a primary teacher and look forward to welcoming you.
We have designed this page to equip you with the necessary skills and knowledge to begin the course in September. Please ensure you carefully consider the tasks outlined below.
How can I ensure I undertake professional responsibilities around safeguarding? This section provides crucial information and the tasks outlined must be completed before you join the course.
How can I enhance my subject knowledge? This will be a significant area of learning during your programme. Please complete the outlined tasks with thought and care; there are significant elements that must be completed before you begin the course. There is also a novel to read as part of your English module.
How can I pursue further interests in education? The knowledge base outlines the evidence base that underpins the OBU ITET curriculum. By exploring it and engaging with the literature and resources you will be introduced to the course content that you will explore in depth on our programmes.
How can I ensure I undertake professional responsibilities around safeguarding?
Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility when working with children and families, and it is taken very seriously at Oxford Brookes. As a requirement of the course, all trainees must complete their Level 2 Generalist Safeguarding training.
It is, therefore, important that all BA1 and PGCE prospective students do the following before starting in September:
Undertake the first part of the 'level 2: Generalist Safeguarding' course by clicking the link entitled 'Level 2 Awareness of child abuse and neglect'. This is an e-learning course. You will be prompted to sign up for the second part of this course which is a live online meeting, but you do not need to do so as we will cover this once you arrive on campus - please just complete the online Level 2 Awareness of child abuse and neglect. This will require you to make an account. Please put Matthew Wimpenny-Smith as your line manager (mwimpenny-smith@brookes.ac.uk).
