The CAVEPET educational intervention was created to operate within the faculty’s brand new immersive digital classroom within a Virtual Reality (VR) Cave Automatic Virtual Environment (CAVE). The CAVE has been provided by ST Engineering Antycip, which is one of Europe’s leading providers of Virtual Reality solutions and simulation tools. The Cave utilises multiple high resolution projectors to create 3D projection, giving an immersive VR learning environment, as illustrated in this 3D model. It is the UK’s first multiviewer stereoscopic VR CAVE system. Students can move around, and manipulate 3D models, and experience realistic 3D scenarios. This technology can facilitate practice-based learning to help students develop skills for real-world situations.
The implementation uses the open source UniCAVE software to distribute the 3D display across the three walls. An updated version of the repository, created for the Brookes CAVE, is publicly available on GitHub.
