This term our group have been learning about coding. We had fun doing some unplugged coding activities where we pretended to be Kidbots. Then we learned how to retell the story of 'Te Ika ā Māui' using Beebots and Scratch Jnr. We hope our video helps you to learn a little bit about coding.
Coding is telling a computer what to do. We learned about coding at school. You can tell a Beebot what to do by pushing the arrow buttons. If you push the wrong button the computer inside the Beebot will make it go the wrong way. This is called a bug. Ayden (6 yrs) & Maka (5yrs)
'I pretended to be a kidbot and it was fun. My buddy was Siosaia and he controlled me like a robot. It was funny being a kidbot.' Naila - 5 yrs
'I got all the way to the end of coding our story with my friend Phoenix. Sometimes our Beebot went the wrong way and got bugs in it but it was pretty funny.' Mila - 5 yrs
'I drew a background and I drew Māui and his waka in Scratch Jnr. Then I used the arrow buttons to make Māui move around in the story. Sometimes it was hard and sometimes it was easy.' Autumn - 5 yrs
'I'm really good at Scratch Jnr and I helped other people when they got stuck. I had to think hard to get Māui in his waka. The red button makes you change backgrounds.' Archie - 5 yrs
