Welcome! This site showcases the curricula and student projects at the KS3 level in History at the British School in Colombo. Click on each curriculum title below to explore the topics we cover and see sample student work. While covering a range of diverse content, we focus on three assessment objectives that are adapted from KS4 objectives: historical knowledge, change over time, and source skills.
AO1: Historical knowledge tests the ability to recall, select, and organize knowledge.
AO2: Change over time tests the ability to understand and explain the following: cause and consequence, change and continuity, similarity and difference, beliefs and emotions (what) of people in the past, and motives and intentions (why) of people in the past.
AO3: Source skills test the ability to understand, interpret, and use a range of sources as well as the ability to infer information from a range of sources.
Year 7
Origins introduces students to the study of History from the Stone Age to the Bronze Age with a particular focus on sources, perspectives, and narratives.
Year 8
Ideas continues the study of History with the emergence of empires that give rise to world philosophies and religions and the resultant aftermath.
Year 9
Conquests explores the rise of Old Imperialism and leads into the study of New Imperialism after the Industrial Revolution that paved the way for World War One.
