Storyboard
Initially, I started storyboarding the animated trailer based off of the script I created above. I started with storyboarding the dream sequence as this was the scene I could visualise most clearly.
However, as my research continued, my idea started to change and I moved away from the idea of doing the animated trailer and more working on the concepts for it. I still planned to make a shortened animated piece as part of these concepts, but since I had cut many of the trailer scenes from what I was going to create it did not make sense to continue storyboarding them. Instead, I created this storyboard for the animated title sequence, which I will use within the shortened animation.
Concept Board Planning
I planned out three concept boards on A3 paper. This helps me to have a visualisation of what I am going to create and to start visualising the layers and textures I will use for it. I can use these as references when I create the physical boards.
This is going to be a board going over the layout of the world as well as the cultures and types of people in it. I was going to illustrate the map using procreate however I think now I may use tea-stained paper and draw a very rough-style map using a quill and ink.
This is going to be a board laying out the architecture in different areas of the country. While the architecture doesn't inherently have much effect on the plot, it is a big part of the world-building and visualisation of the world.
This breaks down the curious creatures and poisonous plants found within the 'Dark Forest' which is a forest that lies between the King's land and the side of the country where the witches, Esmerelda and a cluster of villages reside. There are small, narrow corridors on either end of the forest so it is possible to go around, but the King's men are stationed there and will stop you from crossing if you cannot provide any appropriate paperwork stating your need to pass. Towards the end of the story, Esmerelda and the witches have to pass through this mysterious and dangerous forest to get to the King's land.
Casting
The script has characters of a variety of ages, so for casting I made sure to ask some of the adults in my life like parents and relatives if they would be interested.
I also got in touch with the people who said yes to voice acting and left their contact details in the consumer research form.
