Welcome 7th grade!
My name is Megan Scott and I will be one of your student's 7th grade math teachers this year. I have taught at Valor Middle School since 2013 and am excited to teach many of your students again this year.
Mi nombre es Megan Scott y este año seré una de las maestras de matemáticas de séptimo grado de su hijo. He enseñado en Valor Middle School desde 2013 y estoy emocionado de poder enseñar a muchos de sus estudiantes nuevamente este año.
Grades:
Students will receive their grades based on the graph to the left. Please check and sign your student’s weekly Progress Report that will go home on Friday to keep track of their grades.
Students will have 2 graded assignments per week. Students will receive feedback and have one week to revise their cool down one time only.

Los estudiantes recibirán sus calificaciones según el gráfico de la izquierda. Revise y firme el Informe de progreso semanal de su estudiante que se enviará a casa el viernes para realizar un seguimiento de sus calificaciones.
Los estudiantes tendrán 2 tareas calificadas por semana. Los estudiantes recibirán comentarios y tendrán una semana para revisar su recuperación una sola vez.
Problem Based Curriculum:
In a problem-based curriculum, students spend most of their class time working on well-designed problems. Teachers help students understand these problems, ask them questions to make them think more, and guide discussions to ensure everyone gets the main math ideas. This way, students really understand math and can use it in new situations. They also work together often - talking about math, sharing ideas, explaining their thoughts, and discussing others' reasoning. This helps them get better at talking and writing about their ideas, skills they’ll need in life.
This kind of teaching might be different from how you learned math. Research now shows that students should be able to think in different ways to use math in real life and on tests. To do this, they need to understand ideas and connect them. With time, students get better and more confident at solving new problems they've never seen before, all on their own.
Plan de estudios basado en problemas:
En un plan de estudios basado en problemas, los estudiantes pasan la mayor parte del tiempo de clase trabajando en problemas bien diseñados. Los maestros ayudan a los estudiantes a comprender estos problemas, les hacen preguntas para que piensen más y guían las discusiones para garantizar que todos comprendan las ideas matemáticas principales. De esta manera, los estudiantes realmente entienden las matemáticas y pueden utilizarlas en situaciones nuevas. También trabajan juntos a menudo: hablan de matemáticas, comparten ideas, explican sus pensamientos y discuten el razonamiento de los demás. Esto les ayuda a mejorar al hablar y escribir sobre sus ideas y las habilidades que necesitarán en la vida.
