Reading

In reading, we use a program called Into Reading. As third graders, we will read several great fiction stories. We will also read nonfiction texts, and learn how to gather information from this type of text. We will work hard to use examples from the text to help us explain our thinking.

Each student will need to read at least 20 minutes a night. Your child will have a reading log that will need to be filled out to track their reading minutes. This is part of their reading grade and they can earn prizes and special rewards for turning in their reading logs each month. This time every evening is very important in your child's education. We are transitioning from learning to read, to reading to learn in third grade. I would encourage you to spend this time reading with your child. Help them with words they don't know, and ask them about what they read.
