Students are assessed on an ongoing basis through all assignments and activities, including, hands-on work, group collaboration, personalized tasks, written assignments, traditional tests, presentations, projects, ongoing observations, and one-on-one interactions. Our process is based on formative assessments and regular feedback that move students forward and cultivate growth over time. one-on-one conversations, observations, and Every activity is an opportunity for students to demonstrate their mastery of the learning outcomes of the course, as well as other related skills and proficiency. A summative assessment is reported formally on progress reports that are regularly distributed throughout the year. The grade is determined using the quantitative and qualitative data gathered during the assessment process.
Students will also be evaluated on their ability to take guidance from me, as well as be self-directed. They will be assessed on their level of creativity, resourcefulness, craftsmanship, perseverance and follow through. Each writer will be working in a workshop-like environment, so they will both be evaluated on their productive participation in the class discussions and critiques, as well as their ability to present and defend their own ideas. They will thus be assessed also on their ability to refine and improve their work through a process of revision. Students will however be most significantly assessed on their ability to be innovative, forward thinking, risk takers and work hard for their ideas.
