Course Descriptions and Eligibility Requirements

The Tiger Works Program is an early release paid work experience in a business or industrial establishment for high school seniors. The fundamental purpose is to provide opportunities for students to learn under real-life work conditions and to develop occupational competencies (attitudes, technical skills, and knowledge) needed to be successful in the world of work.

Tiger Works Program Eligibility Requirements:

A student must have/be:

A 2.5 grade point average

Be on track to graduate (at least 20 credits)

Completed/Or scheduled to complete all Graduation Qualifiers (4 pathway classes or 2 foreign language classes)

Parental/guardian consent

Have a documented and verified job placement

Have met general policies regarding discipline, attendance, and academics

• The student arranges with the employer to complete the Work-Based Learning Plan

• The parent or guardian agrees to accept responsibility for the student’s safety and conduct while traveling to and from school, place of employment, and/or home.

• School personnel will verify the work site and work based plan. The student will turn in weekly time sheets or verification of employment. School personnel will check student’s progress, attendance, appropriate work assignments, safety, etc. School personnel should follow all protocols that are followed for cooperative learning programs. Please see work learning forms above for co-op forms to use for work release. The same forms will be used for work release and co-op.

• The student is paid wages, in accordance with Kentucky Wage and Hour Laws, for the on-the-job phase of instruction.

• Student must be covered by employer’s Workers’ Compensation Insurance and the employer must comply with all related Labor Laws, Kentucky Child Labor Laws and Federal Child Labor Bulletin 101.

• The Addendum for Student Learner in Hazardous Occupations form must be on file for each student if they are working in sectors identified in the Federal Child Labor Bulletin 101.

**Credits are determined by the number of periods a student is assigned to Work-Based Learning each day.
