WHO WE ARE
Our aims:
To promote intercultural communicative competence (ICC), i.e. to promote:
Curiosity about different cultures
Knowledge of different cultural values and behaviours
Openness towards cultural difference
The ability to interpret products from different cultures
The ability to observe, understand, and account for different cultural practices
The development of critical cultural awareness to:
Promote critical literacy as a key means of achieving critical cultural awareness
Integrate intercultural communicative competence and critical literacy into language teaching through the development of classroom materials, teacher education, and online content and networks.
Encourage research into ICC and critical literacy in language education and its dissemination via teacher education and teacher networks.
Increase and support multicultural exchanges, particularly among BRAZ-TESOL members, chapters, and teachers' associations, but extending worldwide.
We participate in regular events in Brazil, at BRAZ-TESOL conventions, and at other conferences and seminars.

Meet the ILE SIG team
Jane Godwin Coury
(FINANCIAL COORDINATOR) has been an English teacher, teacher educator, materials writer, translator, and copyeditor for more than 30 years. She holds an MA in Applied Linguistics from the University of Leicester and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from PUC. Jane currently teaches on the BA Translation and Interpreting programme and postgraduate programmes in English Language Teaching and Translation at Faculdade Phorte.
Louise Emma Potter
(ACADEMIC COORDINATOR) is an experienced teacher trainer and material writer with over 30 years in the education field. She holds a BA in Marketing and Advertising and a postgraduate degree in Bilingual Education and Education for Innovation, specializing in teacher training and development. Recently, Louise co-authored a self-published book titled Project-Based Learning Applied to the Language Classroom and contributed a chapter to books edited by BOC Editora.
Luana M. Andrade
(ILE SIG LEADER) is an Education Specialist and English teacher with over 10 years of experience. She holds a BA in Education Sciences from the University of Porto and she is CELTA-certified by Cambridge English. Luana currently teaches private students at Fluelo, a Portuguese/Polish online school; Anglia English and at her private practice. Her recent areas of studies are ICC in Language Learning and the DOGME approach.
