The BRAZ-TESOL Intercultural Language Education Special Interest Group was established at the 2012 BRAZ-TESOL International Conference in Rio. We embrace members from all over the globe to exchange thoughts and materials on integrating language education with cultural exploration, creativity, and critical thinking.
Our objectives include promoting intercultural communicative competence (ICC) by fostering curiosity about diverse cultures, imparting knowledge of various cultural values and behaviors, encouraging openness towards cultural differences, and developing the ability to interpret products from different cultures. We also aim to integrate ICC and critical literacy into language teaching through the creation of classroom materials, teacher education programs, and online content and networks. Additionally, we seek to promote critical literacy as a key tool for attaining critical cultural awareness.
Our goals involve encouraging research into ICC and critical literacy in language education and disseminating the findings through teacher education and networks. We also aim to enhance and support multicultural exchanges, particularly among BRAZ-TESOL members, chapters, and teacher's associations, while extending our reach worldwide.
We're thrilled to be part of exciting events in Brazil, such as the BRAZ-TESOL conventions, and other dynamic conferences and seminars.
The BRAZ-TESOL Intercultural Language Education Special Interest Group is a growing network of diverse and passionate individuals.
