This ILE SIG Morning explores diverse approaches to developing intercultural competence in English language education. Presentations examine theoretical perspectives through Deardorff’s and Bennett’s models, highlighting attitudes such as openness, curiosity, respect, and adaptation. An intercultural project based on the book Origin demonstrates how young learners can engage with Indigenous cultures and global perspectives. International exchange initiatives, both physical and virtual, are presented as powerful tools for fostering motivation, empathy, and authentic communication. Finally, UNESCO’s Story Circles methodology showcases how storytelling, active listening, and reflection can build inclusive learning communities and strengthen intercultural awareness in language education.
