International service projects are an important way for us to focus on global issues or help communities around the world that cannot meet their own needs. Lending a helping hand to those in need without expecting anything in return is the essence of true service. We are proud that at Branksome Hall Asia we have formed long term relationships with the organizations and communities that we support and that our students are the driving force behind the positive impact that we have in these communities.

Case Study 1 - Ejaad Threads of Hope Stitching Project

The Ejaad Club was established to focus on the United Nations Sustainable Goal 5 for Gender Equality and Empowering of Women. Our Ejaad team partnered with a group of women living in Afghanistan, in an effort to empower them to learn new skills and earn independent financial support through a stitching and embroidery project. This provided with equal access to decent work and wages - an important aspect of the Gender Equality goal. The Ejaad club members supported the project by helping to design stitching patterns, promoting, and selling the finished products. The club members worked closely with the group of women in Afghanistan, the project coordinator in Afghanistan, other BHA students and faculty, as well as the Jeju community to ensure the success of the project goals.

Case Study 2 - For MUNA

For MUNA is a service group led by students, which aims to promote girls education and empower women in Uganda by making and donating reusable fabric sanitary pads. The group works with the Gangnam Teenager’s Center to send the finished sanitary pads to the AIDS Center in Uganda. Starting from 2018, For MUNA has gathered supporters of BHA teachers, teacher dons, BHA parents, and parents from other schools in Jeju to overcome the challenge of shortage of sanitary pads.

Case Study 3 - 3200km Connection Club

The 3200km Connections Club was established by a group of our students to support the wellbeing of the girls in a remote, high-altitude (4200m) pastoral Tibetan community school in Qinghai province, China. Qinghai is located in the northwestern region of China, bordering the Tibet Province, which is 3200 km away from Jeju. That is why their service group is called the 3200km Connection Club. Within the school that our students are supporting, in Qinghai, there are quite a few orphans and stay-behind girls, whose parents work outside of the country. The local teachers of a school there started to build a Wellness Center for the girls to ensure that they had access to pastoral care. The 3200km continue to set up a variety of activities in the BHA community to share our understanding of and to empower the girls there, such as their amazing charity gala in November 2018.
