What is restorative practice?
"Restorative Practices are ways of pro-actively developing relationships and community, as well as repairing community when harm is done. After conflict or harm, Restorative Practices provide a way of thinking about, talking about, and responding to issues and problems by involving all participants to discuss their feelings and opinions, identify what happened, describe how it affected everyone, and find solutions to make things better." -Chicago Public Schools Restorative Practices Guide and Toolkit
The BHA counselors are trained in Restorative Practices and use these practices to help students work through conflicts. The counselors arrange meetings with students in conflict and mediate the conversations with the hope of bringing about a mutually satisfactory solution for both parties.
The Peacemakers are student mediators who are trained in Restorative Practices. The counselors work closely with them to ensure they are properly trained and supported as they assist peers with mediating conflict.
