HelpChat - a secure and safe space
By Laura Muir, MSSS Social Counselor
Providing teens with a private, non-judgmental space to share stresses and problems is vital to their safety and wellbeing. We wanted to make sure our students have a private way to reach out to the Social Counselors for support. So, we’ve created BHA HelpChat.
Students can access a form via a QR Code and a button on the Counseling Website. The form can only be seen by the Social Counselors and lets students send us a direct message. They can use it for themselves or if they're worried about a friend.
This isn't a place for students to tattle on each other but to get support and a listening ear. Nothing they share with the Social Counselors will ever be shared with universities. It is confidential and a safe space.
Stress is necessary but it is hard and learning to manage it in healthy ways is part of adolescent development and success. We are here to offer that learning space and support.
"Until we can receive with an open heart, we're never really giving with an open heart. When we attach judgment to receiving help, we knowingly or unknowingly attach judgment to giving help.”
