One in five children and adolescents may have a mental health condition at any given time. It is important to remember that a child’s mental health is just as important as their physical health.
At Walsh Intermediate School, we have school counselors, school psychologists, social workers, and a school based health center. In addition to our resources, please talk with your peditrician and/or visit our Resources & Referrals page on our website if your child is in need of support.
Our students had a wonderful time at our New Student Breakfast! Thank you to our Peer Leaders who helped welcome them and facilitated conversations with our new students. Students created a puzzle piece that shared their likes, hobbies, and fun facts about themselves. As new students, they are an "essential" piece to our school community!
And thank you to Dr. Tranberg and Ali Moran for attending as well since they are also new to our school community!
The holiday season is upon us. We know times can be difficult for families. Please reach out to your child's school counselor if your family may need help this holiday season.

The Women in Leadership Conference took place at Cheshire High School on Wednesday, May 17th. Fifteen 7th and 8th graders were chosen to attend.
The focus was on how dynamic individual leadership builds community and shared purpose. And also contributes to positive personal growth and change in our schools and communities. Students were inspired and motivated to further develop their own leadership skills and talents!
This year’s conference included two panels of distinguished women leaders in the fields of education, law, photography, construction, entrepreneurship, and medicine. There was also student leaders from three Connecticut high schools.
Here is what our girls had to say about the presentation:
"This prepared me for my future so I can know and find out about what jobs are going to be like. They shared their ups and downs during the process of their jobs and it wasn't easy for them. So we can't always think everything is going be good without understanding how are people started off."
"I learned that to get where you want you may sometimes need to step out of your comfort zone"
"That anyone can be a leader if they put in the effort."
Branford High School Athletic Director, Tom Ermini, and six high school captains visited Walsh in April to talk to 8th graders about academic eligibility and setting themselves up for success if they plan to play a sport or participate in an activity that has an academic threshold.
It was a panel like discussion which touched upon questions like what was it like for students to transition from middle to high school, what do you wish you knew, what is the workload like, how to balance athletics and academics, time management, attendance, and how could behavior effect your playing time.
