This year we will have various opportunities for students to learn about
post secondary options, including college!
The National Junior Honor Society attended a field trip to Yale University in May. Students went on a campus tour, had lunch on Chapel Street, and finished with a tour of the Payne Whitney Gymnasium.
Study results were published in the journal AERA Open saying, “students who participated in [college] visits retained more information about college, exhibited more diligence, began having more conversations about college, and were more likely to enroll in advanced math and science/social science courses in ninth grade.”
Interested 8th graders had the opportunity to visit Southern Connecticut State University for an Early College Awareness Program called College Knowledge.
While on the campus, students visited the Planetarium, heard a presentation about what it would be like being a student athlete, including hearing about the day in the life of a student athlete, and heard about the importance of having a vision board to help students achieve their full potential!
Check out where our staff went to college!
