I want to sincerely thank you for choosing to take this course. Although many of you might be familiar with politics as one of those "do not talk about at the dinner table" subjects due to its ability to incite heated debate, it is very enlightening to study it from a political scientist's perspective if we can get beyond our passions. Some of you are likely just starting to develop your political identity while others may already feel pretty strongly about certain issues. But our task as social scientists is to push/challenge our assumptions regarding the U.S. system of government, politics or society and ultimately find your own political compass! But fair warning, this class is only for those students that are serious about working hard to earn college credit by passing the AP Exam in May. To do so, we must be great readers and writers - not things that the average teenager gets excited about or finds fun. So if you feel up to the task, let's get after it!
