Who are we?

Brandeis Biochemistry Club’s goal is to promote undergraduate interest in biochemistry and the general sciences. We strive to provide opportunities for both students that are majoring in biochemistry and those with no prior experience. We support biochemistry majors by working closely with faculty and the department to provide valuable resources. The club seeks to provide opportunities for students to learn about new biochemical research from distinguished faculty, events to promote interest in and hands-on experience with macromolecular structure and function, and workshops to facilitate career development and research opportunities. We graciously welcome and support students from all academic majors in the hopes to further interest in the discipline.

What is Biochemistry?

Biochemistry is the study of chemical mechanisms within living organisms. It is a discipline at the intersection of chemistry, biology, and physics. Biochemistry explores topics relating to the mechanisms of enzymes, processes of metabolism, structures of macromolecules and more. Biochemistry has vast implications and relevance as it explains the processes within cells. Biochemical topics pop up all the time in cellular biology, neuroscience, medicine, drug discovery, chemical synthesis, sport science and many other disciplines. Its relevance is a strong motivator for our club to attract students from all academic backgrounds.
