BPSU desires to receive institutional accreditation, and it's basically showing how much the academic community is all about delivering top-notch quality, always trying to get better, and making sure everyone in the community is thriving. The Quality Assurance Office is determined to make this happen. The office is on a mission to guide BPSU in improving the level of our services, all aimed at reaching the highest possible degree of academic achievement.

INSTITUTIONAL ACCREDITATION SURVEY VISIT AND ASSESSMENT

Advancing Academic Integrity through Institutional Accreditation

Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU) Main Campus successfully conducted its Institutional Accreditation Survey Visit from April 13 to 16, 2026, anchored on the theme “Advancing Academic Integrity through Institutional Accreditation.” The four-day engagement highlighted the University’s steadfast commitment to quality assurance, continuous improvement, and academic excellence.

The activity commenced on April 13 with the arrival of accreditors from the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines, led by Executive Director Dr. Milabel E. Ho. The team of accreditors, composed of experts across nine key areas, initiated a collaborative and rigorous evaluation process to assess the University’s compliance with national quality standards.

The formal Opening Program on April 14, held at the Main Campus Library, featured a ceremonial welcome highlighted by the Parade of Colors, cultural performances, and the presentation of the University’s institutional profile. University officials, faculty, staff, and students gathered to formally launch the evaluation, emphasizing the significance of accreditation in strengthening institutional integrity and performance.

Following the opening rites, accreditors began their initial evaluation through conferences with University officials and comprehensive document reviews. These activities continued on the second day, alongside interviews with stakeholders, campus tours, and facility inspections. Accreditors visited classrooms, laboratories, research centers, and student service units to validate the University’s operational effectiveness. A notable highlight was the extension site visit in Orani, which showcased BPSU’s strong commitment to community engagement and public service.

The final day focused on deliberations, report writing, and the Exit Conference, where accreditors presented their initial findings and recommendations. The Closing Program formally concluded the visit, featuring messages of appreciation and commitment from University leaders, as well as the awarding of certificates to the accreditation team.

Overall, the Institutional Accreditation Survey Visit affirmed BPSU’s strong adherence to quality standards across governance, instruction, research, extension, and student support services. The process underscored a deeply rooted culture of quality within the University while also identifying opportunities for further enhancement.

More than an evaluation, the accreditation visit served as a meaningful platform for reflection, validation, and growth—reinforcing BPSU’s mission to deliver transformative education and positioning the University toward greater institutional excellence and global competitiveness.

BPSU Advances Its Institutional Accreditation Journey through a Comprehensive Self-Assessment

Institutional accreditation is a critical process that evaluates and certifies the quality of higher education institutions. It ensures that educational programs meet established standards set by accrediting agencies, thereby enhancing the credibility and reputation of the institutions involved. The impact of institutional accreditation extends beyond mere recognition. It significantly influences various aspects of educational quality, student experience, and institutional development.

Bataan Peninsula State University conducted a comprehensive two-day Institutional Accreditation Self-Assessment as part of its preparation for the upcoming AACCUP Institutional Accreditation Visit. The activity, guided by the theme “Advancing Academic Integrity Through Institutional Accreditation,” brought together members of the Institutional Accreditation Task Force for document consolidation, area evaluations, and readiness checks.

The opening program began with welcome remarks from Dr. Jesselyn C. Mortejo, Director for Quality Assurance, who highlighted the university’s long-standing preparations and collective commitment to accreditation. University President Dr. Ruby B. Santos-Matibag commended the Task Force for its dedication and emphasized the administration’s strong resolve to attain institutional accreditation.

AACCUP Senior Accreditor Dr. Niño B. Corpuz delivered the Statement of Purpose and briefly explained the standards and requirements for the nine areas of evaluation, underscoring the importance of institutional accreditation as the highest level of external quality assurance.

Throughout the first and second days, Dr. Corpuz conducted a thorough document review and interview sessions for all nine areas: Governance, Teaching and Learning, Faculty, Research, Extension, Support to Students, Library, Infrastructure, and Quality Assurance Culture.

INSTITUTIONAL ACCREDITATION PRELIMINARIES

PHILIPPINE QUALITY AWARD

BPSU already took its initial steps by applying for the Philippine Quality Awards (PQA). As a major achievement, the university was granted the coveted Recognition for Commitment to Quality Management (Level I) under the 25th Philippine Quality Award (PQA) Assessment Cycle by the Office of the President of the Philippines.

The virtual visit for the Philippine Quality Award (PQA) at BPSU began with preliminary activities, including prayer, the national anthem, and the university march. The University President delivered a welcome message, and senior leaders were introduced by the Head of Public Affairs and In-Charge of International Affairs. A representative from the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) introduced PQA Assessors, outlining the purpose of the site visit.

Interviews were conducted on Day 1, focusing on Categories 1 and 2 (Leadership and Strategy) with senior leaders. Day 2 involved interviews with students, alumni, faculty, and staff falling under Category 3 (Customers). The Human Resource Department was interviewed in the morning, and a campus tour of infra-facilities was conducted in the afternoon.

On Day 3, interviews under Category 6 (Operations) took place, covering various departments and offices. Another campus tour followed in the afternoon. Day 4 included a document review, an assessors' meeting, and a closing meeting. The DAP representative and PQA Assessors explained the process and tentative release date of the final rating, set for September 15, 2022.

In BPSU's continuous dedication to excellence in quality management, this was a crucial turning point. BPSU INSTITUTIONAL PORTFOLIO

As BPSU upholds its commitment in fostering high standards and delivering exceptional results across various accreditation and quality management systems, the Quality Assurance initiated the preparation of its application for Institutional Accreditation.

Dr. Jesselyn Mortejo took the initial steps of pushing Institutional Accreditation by collecting the required documents and write-ups to build the BPSU's Institutional Portfolio via the issuance of Office Memorandum: QUAO.MEM.2024.0006.JCM.
