Library Impact

Michigan's Model School Library

In 2021-2022, West Maple was honored to be Michigan's Model School Library for the year. This included showcasing our library to districts and community members across the state. During the year we hosted visits from Dr. Michael Rice, Michigan Department of Education Superintendent, Project RUSL (Restoring Urban School Libraries) from Wayne State University, and Airport Community Schools. In addition to these visits, Mrs. Betts presented on Selection Policies at the Michigan Association of Superintendents and Administrators (MASA) Midwinter Conference. The presentation opportunity for MASA was a direct result of being the Model School Library and extended our school library's reach to Dundee School District and Maple Valley Schools who both reached out to West Maple for guidance on selection policies. Further, BPS Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Mark Lineburg extended our reach to Virginia were he shared portions of the MASA presentation with his university class.
