Our School

West Maple is a National School of Character serving 506 K-5 students. It is also home to The French School of Detroit and two BPS Community Education Pre-School classrooms. Our school is located in Oakland County, Michigan and is a suburban school north of Detroit.

Our Community

Our student body is rich with ethnic diversity and family investment in our school. Our families have opportunities to work with a thriving Parent Teacher Association (PTA), to volunteer in our school library, and to partner with us in our service learning projects throughout the year.

Our Collection

Our library collection offers over 14,000 print titles to our students. We have 402 eBooks available, 82 of which can be translated into over 40 languages to serve our linguistically diverse population and offer a read-aloud option.  Additionally, we have over 50 audio books.

Our Librarians

Carrie Betts is West Maple's full time librarian and the Elementary Library Facilitator for Birmingham Public Schools. Terry Whitfield is West Maple's part time librarian who teaches five classes of second grade students.
