School Librarian

Mrs. Betts has been the full time librarian at West Maple for 6.5 years. Her work as an elementary librarian totals 12.5 years. She has been elected as the Michigan Association of School Librarians President-Elect for 2023. She has mentored three Wayne State University library students who have all received school library endorsements. Elementary Library Facilitator

Mrs. Betts has been Birmingham Public School's Elementary Library Facilitator for 2 years. In this role she is responsible for facilitating department meetings, organizing district-wide library initiatives, representing the department to the School Board and Central Leadership Team, and advocating for best practices in school libraries across the district. In 2021 Mrs. Betts and Mrs. Truesdell, the Secondary Library Facilitator, were an integral part of the selection policy revision team. They co-presented the policy to the entire district administration team, emphasizing the professional role librarians play in serving the diverse community we represent, protecting the first amendment rights of our students, and in partnering with building principals in public discourse about our selection policy and library collections.
