7th & 8th Grade Concert Choir

Welcome to 7th & 8th Grade Concert Choir!

What's it all about?

Although our 7th and 8th grade students meet for class by grade level sections, we all perform together as a combined 7th & 8th Grade Concert Choir. This gives the students the opportunity to sing in a slightly larger group (as they will at the high school), and helps us continue to develop musicality skills such as balance, blend, phrasing, etc. Both groups sing in three-part harmony, so the larger numbers also help boost the strength of each individual voice part.

7th grade picks up rhythm work where 6th grade left off, reviewing the basic rhythmic elements covered the year before and then continuing into more complex rhythmic patterns. As in 6th grade, we focus on students' abilities to both recognize and identify the rhythmic elements they see, as well as perform each of these elements. We also continue developing our students' sight-reading skills, introducing longer exercises and slightly larger intervals.

8th grade chorus is a continuation of 7th grade in all ways - our students know that, in music, there is always room for growth and improvement! Our rhythms get more complicated, and we begin layering different rhythmic patterns (similar to layering harmonies in our songs). We continue to add new elements to our sight-reading exercises, as well, with intermittent check-ins serving to assess and analyze our progress both as a group and as individual musicians.
