6th Grade Chorus

Welcome to 6th grade chorus!

What's it all about?

In 6th Grade Chorus, our singers are taking the next steps towards reading rhythms and notes, singing in multiple harmonies, and performing as an ensemble.

6th Grade Chorus is split into two voice parts: Team Red and Team Black. Each class sections contains members of both 'teams,' so the students grow accustomed to hearing different vocal lines being sung at the same time. In our concerts, all class sections perform together as one unified choir.

Our rhythm works begins by reviewing the basics of rhythm taught throughout elementary school, and adding more difficult elements throughout the year. Our focus is on both recognizing and performing these rhythmic elements, and we use a variety of tools and materials to assess students' growth.

Sight singing is introduced part-way through the year in 6th Grade Chorus, and supports the students' ongoing development of learning to read a piece of sheet music. We focus on following the 'shape' of the musical line, and slowly add in simple intervals an solfege syllables.
