About Me

Ms. Francine M. Miranda, Room 102

Hello everyone! My name is Francine Marie Miranda and I am a first grade teacher at the Murphy School.

I am Cabo Verdean and come from a tight-knit Brockton/Boston family. My parents emigrated to Boston in the 1970's and raised me and my two siblings in Brockton, MA. I actually spend most (if not all) of my free time with my cousins or siblings. My husband, Nicholas, often comes to my classroom to help me move heavy things, clean, bring treats, or to help chaperone field trips! We have a 3-years-old son, Miguel, and 11-months-old daughter, Maria! Miguel loves to run around and is currently obsessed with dinosaurs, construction trucks, and Blippi! Maria is learning how to talk and walk and has the best laugh!

I have been teaching first grade in Boston for the last 10 years, and this will be my fifth year at the Murphy School. I am extremely excited to work with the Murphy families and for the different opportunities available here. I look forward to expanding my BPS experience and building community with you.

Education & Teaching experience

I graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2011 with my B.A. in Psychology. Three days after graduation, I started my M.Ed in Elementary Teaching program at Boston College! I did an accelerated teaching program that focused on elementary education in urban districts. During this program, I was a student teacher at the Winship School in Brighton. It was an amazing learning and professional experience, especially since I had an incredible mentor teacher to guide me. After I graduated, I immediately started teaching at Orchard Gardens in Roxbury. I taught there for 5 years. While at Orchard Gardens, I was involved in various leadership opportunities/positions and worked on honing my craft as a teacher. My time at Orchard Gardens was special and I was able to have some extraordinary experiences there (my class was featured on a PBS episode of Arthur)! In 2015, I returned to Boston College to complete my Certificate of Advanced Educational Specialization in Reading and Literacy. I tend to focus primarily on kindergarten to second grade literacy, but my program did expand and further develop my knowledge of adolescent literacy.
